How to complete a 301 redirects list

    SEO Continuity made easy

If you've purchased a new Ecommerce website from us and it includes our SEO Continuity Pack, as part of the project, we'll send you a list of your URLs from your current website, which will be redirected to a corresponding page on your new Citrus-Lime Ecommerce website.

Note: We create the list based on recommendations by leading SEO agencies: 80% of traffic for the past 12 months. We do not redirect URLs which contain query-strings.

Your commitment here is to ensure you complete the list effectively, by choosing an appropriate page from your new website. We'll send a file across that looks something like the screenshot below.

Each URL represents a web-address of your current website, with the domain and leading / removed.

    In the example below, the text in red would be removed and the blue text would be used for the redirect;
    www.yourcurrentwebsite.com/jackets/technical-jackets

Once completed, your file should look something like this ...

Our team will then process these redirects and apply them to your new website. After we've completed our internal testing, we may need to remove erroneous redirects if they cannot be safely redirected. This is rare, but it can happen when particular symbols/characters are used in a URL.

How do I pick which URL to redirect a page to?

The best practice for redirects is to find a direct replacement for a page. For instance, if you have a current season product, the ideal scenario is to redirect to the product's new URL on the Citrus-Lime Ecommerce platform.

If for whatever reason, there's no direct replacement for a page then you should roll back to the next suitable location. We have a handy guide below which uses an old-season product as an example.

Defunct product: 2020 Giant Defy 1 Road Bike

    Ideal scenario:
The current version of that bike

If you no longer stock that range, but stock the brand:
Use the Find and Filter Category Page for the brand+bike type (in this example it would be Giant Road Bikes)

If you neither stock the range or brand anymore:
Use the Find and Filter Category Page for the bike type (in this example it would be Road Bikes)

In some cases, you may not stock that product type anymore:
In this case, the most suitable location would probably be the homepage. You should represent the homepage with a forward slash (/).
